Codex skin FAQ.

Know which layer you are changing, which code you are trusting, and how to return to stock Codex.

Before you download.

What is a Codex skin?

A Codex skin is a visual customization for Codex Desktop. Native appearance settings change supported colors and fonts. An immersive Dream Skin can add background artwork and translucent surfaces through a separate community runtime.

Is Codex Dream Skin an OpenAI product?

No. It is an independent open-source community project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.

Do theme recipes contain executable code?

Codex Skin Lab recipe downloads are JSON data only. The separate Dream Skin injector contains executable scripts and should be reviewed from its upstream repository.

Does the builder upload my image?

No. File reading, preview, and JSON export happen in your browser. The current builder does not send your selected image to a server.

Can I restore the normal Codex appearance?

Yes. Use the upstream restore workflow, confirm the local injector and debugging session stop, then launch Codex normally.

Are Codex App and CLI themes interchangeable?

No. Native App appearance, immersive Dream Skin recipes, and CLI TextMate-style themes are different customization layers and file formats.

What should I do after a Codex update?

Restore stock Codex first, verify the official app, then check current upstream compatibility before enabling a third-party skin again.

May I redistribute Codex Skin Lab backgrounds?

The original ImageGen backgrounds are available under the CSL Original Asset License 1.0. Review the license on each theme detail page.
